I know the Wis. association has allowed handicapped hunters to hunt for free on their preserves. Is this what they are looking for? Most preserves are willing to donate a hunt. |

TIM from what I can tell by reading their web site about CWD (KATHY ETLING WRITER) THEY do not support high fence hunting,or the raising of deer HOW EVER THEY SURE DO LIKE SHOWING DEER RAISED ON FARMS ON THEIR TELEVISION SERIES BUCKMASTERS ?? but they dont say that they (the deer ) are NOT WILD |

I noticed that too Doug. I also see alot of bucks that look familar on hunting magizines. I was at my local Whitetail Unlimited supper last week. The buck they had on the night program looked like Moose from Wild Rivers? |

If what you say is true then that Jackie Bushman is a two-faced hippocrite. But heck what else is new? These magazine writers go around hustling free hunts, etc etc. They make me sick. A friend of mine is an outfitter down in south Texas. I was visiting him one hunting season while he was wining and dining Jackie Bushman at nite while during the day, he took him from one high fenced area to another to look for deer he wanted to film shooting. |

So then why should deer farmers contribute to something that is sponsered by buckmasters? I sure wouldn't and won't. I am willing to donate a hunt every year for a disadvantaged youth and I am only one person not an organization. I am also not soliciting people I do not support for money. I think that whoever had the nerve from buckmasters to ask deer farmers to support them is definately a hippocrite. Just my thoughts. |

They are in need of around 700 for license fee's, I will correct the last few post about buckmaster's, if they did not support fenced hunt's they would not write about it on there web site. I do not represent any group, a friend of is one of the hunters that sit's with one of the handicap hunters, this is his second year, he had told me that they need to raise 700 this year, so I told him maybe I could raise the money for him, so here we are,do any of you last few know a handicap or termilly Ill person, if it was your son or daughter you would have more of a heart, there probably be a acticle about this hunt, and why not have it stated that deerfarmers had helped out! Think before you guys post and do a little more research before post! think about your fellow American, and get your head out of your a--! |

Highrise,I think you misunderstood what some of these guys are saying. Many farmers will and do donate hunts for the handicapped or terminally ill. They just do not want to be associated with Buckmasters because they have really bad mouthed our industry. If you had read their magazine since all of this CWD crap came up you too would not want to be associated with them. |

Highrise, get a grip. No one here is against giving free hunts to disadvantaged or handicapped youngsters. We have several programs like that down here in Texas. BUT, it's not necessary to help someone look good (ie. Jackie Bushman) to get this done. Are you just trying to get your name in the mag? I mean come on, do you think Jackie Bushman is going to do a special on how great preserves and deer farmers are because you donated something to him? Not going to happen. Watch his show sometime. This is the Jackie Bushman show. Every show he does has donated hunts. How much credit (other than their name as opposed to promoting anything to do with high fences) does anybody ever get? |

HIGHRISE You can rest ASSURE I WOULD BE THE LAST PERSON TO DENIGH ANY ONE ESPECIALLY TERMINALLY ILL KIDS OR/HANDICAP PEOPLE THE RIGHT TO HUNT ALSO !!! I help support our local safari club chapter for this exact thing !! and yes buckmaster should be commended for setting up such hunts as well, BUT DO THEY REALY SUPPORT OUR INDUSTRY OR FENCED HUNTS ??? DOES JACKIE BUSHMAN HUNT ON PRESERVES ? FROM WHAT I CAN TELL THEY DON NOT your friend should be able to help out with those two questions since he is in their camp,if they do realy support fencved hunting on their web site, please tell me where to find it, as i've rechecked and could find nothing of the sort, (doesnt mean it not there,i havent found it tho ) I also think your friend and others like him should also be commended for donating time and efforts to support such a hunt no matter who is promoting them !! |

Buckmaster American Foundation only puts handicap people with the hunts. They do not pay anything, the handicap and the group, foot the bill! Just because Buckmaster is the Bad Work in here, keep in mind the hunter, just because someone does you wrong if you block it out and do them good, maybe things will change, It seams like a never ending circle sometimes! Has anyone thought of asking Jackie Bushman to come to there hunting preserve for a hunt? |

anyone who supports Jackie Bushman is a bigger idiot than he is. I met the guy before 99% of you ever heard of Buckmasters and I could not stand the phony wanna-be hunter. He is using YOUR money to hunt private lands where you will never be able to afford it. Then he sells you magazines, books and videos that makes him out to be a great hunter. If you support this then you are a fool. |

HIGHRISE I think you could be wrong about them paying for the hunts, here's why I have a very good friend in northern maine that runs a bear outfit, this week he has a handicap hunter in from arizona thru the buckmaster program. And I KNOW HE IS BEING PAYED BY SOMEBODY in fact they tried to book his camp for the hole year. I also know of an outfitter in new brunswick and all he takes is BUCKMASTER HUNTERS ( HANDICAPPED ) and he also is payed by somebody. anyhow I will call my friend tonight and find out you is FOOTING THE BILL FOR THIS HUNT. I'll post as soon as i have that info |

If anybody is getting paid for handicapped hunts from Buckmasters it's got to be somebody elses money. They sure don't pay for any of their own hunts. They don't have to. As long as you guys want to keep donating they'll never pay! Don't want to be tough on handicapped because it's tough enough without being handicapped but... handicapped kids and orphans are another thing. The Texas Wildlife Association conducts hundreds of hunts every year for kids. As far as adult handicapped...I don't know why I would donate anything. I don't know of anything else that handicapped adults get donated. I mean they don't get a discount on their car, their house or anything else. Why should they expect free hunts? Somebody please explain it to me. If you just want to "give" why don't you give it to the kids and orphans? |

Anon, You can only hope you never are faced with life altering changes. You are obviously comfortable with your life and take many things for granted. I am healthy but smart enough to realize how dificult it would be to be otherwise. I bet you can remember yourself complaining about having to walk three miles in to get where the big buck runs, or run to the store for a gallon of milk, or even practice ball with your child. Open your mind and realize "some" people would love to be able to have what you take for granted. I personally get enjoyment from giving to others and seeing the enjoyment in their eyes. It is not all about "donating". If you open your eyes you "can" get something back a lot more important than some cash. |

Gee RB last May you were telling everyone who gave anything away for no charge they were fools, unAmericans, ect, ect. I think it was under the cost of leaseing land topic? Have you had a change of heart here or what? If so it's good to see you come around and understand there's more to life than just money! There's a satisfaction in helping someone out for free isn't there? Seems funny to read you get personal enjoyment from giving to others when just last May you condemmed giving things away!!! Some things have a way of coming around to bite ya!!! Humm!!! |

Bill, You must understand there is a difference in giving away to the needy or deserving and being used or taken advantage of. Giving things away is rewarding, People that want everything given to them because they are lazy and expect hand outs is wrong (Un-American). I think the reason why you were so offended Bill is because you are the type looking for hand outs and would push a wheel chair out of the way to take one. Try earning something and then give it to someone needy and then you can understand what I mean. |

We donated a hunt to a handicapped teenager who was put in touch with us through Whitetails Unltd. He was in a wheelchair. His mother's fiancee brought him to our farm and they stayed at our lodge. We have a stand set up so a wheelchair can be pushed right in, and we can drive out to it - luckily with a car since he could not get into a truck. I'm sure these folks could not have afforded to pay for any sort of hunt. He shot a nice buck the second day and was very excited about it. It was a great experience for everyone involved and we would be willing to do it again if someone approached us. We would recommend it to anyone who has the facilities to give back a little to those less fortunate. |

RB, I think you missed my whole point. Yes, I feel sorry for the handicapped, the hungry in Africa, the oppressed in Iraq, etc, etc. However, unlike you, I have limited resources. This being the case I must decide how to use them the most wisely. As far as I can see, that means kids. They are our future. WildRivers, you are to be commended. That was very generous and I am sure much appreciated. Your hunter was a teenager and just the sort of person I belive we should provide charity too. Not just because you qualify for handicapped parking. |

RB how do you manage to read so many things into some of these posts?? As in the past you seem to go off into a totally different direction over alot of these posts than the written posts suggest. You curtainly have an imagination don't you?? You seem to go a few weeks on here and make some good sense then all of the sudden you sound a bit off to the left. You and your Unamerican crap, what a joke from a guy like yourself. Bill was right some times these comments come back to get you right where it hurts.. I agree with Bill. RB thinks it is great to give away hunts to the handicapped (he is right) but he wants every able bodies person to somehow pay for their hunting priveldges (wrong!). The hunting heritage in the U.S. were not based on the European approach where only the wealthy aristocrats have the honor of hunting. Hunting in America is a fredom to be enjoyed by all who wish to do so no matter their wealth or social status. Quite frankly I am sick of outfitters and preserve owners thinking that everyone who hunts should have to pay to do so. The approach taken by some of you has destroyed an American heritage as it filled your pockets. |

The right to hunt is alive and well in WI where they are trying to pass a state constitutional amendment guaranteeing people the right to hunt and fish. Our state has many acres of public land where people can go and hunt for only the cost of a license. That is their right and we all hope they continue to exercise that right - use it or lose it. The preserves play a role in their special niche and understand it is not for everyone, it is a choice. I've never heard anyone say they thought everyone should pay to hunt. I have heard people charging rental fees for people to have the hunting rights to a 40 of privately owned land. As long as there continues to be public land open for hunting, everyone should be able to enjoy it. |

JT Do you also think that general motors should give a new car or truck to whoever does not want to pay for one? Every time a hunt is given away to a person, the rest of the paying hunters have to pay more because they are paying for the one person to hunt for free. Kind of like free prescriptions for the elderly. Sounds real good, except that now my cost goes up since someone still has to pay for the drugs. |

JT, Do you raise deer? If so, where do you market them or do you just keep all of your newborn fawns every year and have an ever increasing herd? The hunting preserves in the U.S. and Canada offer the deerfarmers an outlet to market their stock. You are correct in stating that "Hunting in America is a freedom to be enjoyed by all who wish to do so no matter their wealth or social status." However it should be noted that all the hunting preserves in the U.S. and Canada are all owned by private parties on their private land. You pay to hunt irregardless of where you choose to hunt. If you choose to hunt public land you pay for the privalege in the form of licenses, habitat stamps, state and federal duck stamps, trespass fees, etc. That money in turn is used to pay for salaries of state and federal employees that are suppose to be managing, protecting and improving the resource. Please show me one state or Canadian province that manages their deer herd to produce mature, 5 to 8 year old whitetail bucks. Unfortunately there is none. They manage their herds to produce 1 and 2 year old spikes and forkhorns and they hope that the general hunting public will be content with that management philosophy and that they will continue to buy licenses to pay their salaries. On the other hand, the hunting preserves that are owned by private parties manage their whitetail herds to raise mature 5 to 8 year old trophy bucks. Because of the money that the hunting preserves spend on quality genetics and quality feed you will find 2 yr. old bucks that are bigger and healthier than most 4 yr. old bucks that are raised by the states. Hunting on a preserve is not mandatory it is a choice that each individual makes. Their decision could be based on many factors including privacy, safety, quality of animals, hunters per square mile or time they have available to hunt. I do not own a hunting preserve but I do raise whitetail deer and the hunting preserves are a market to sell my deer. Where do you sell yours? |

JT- I never said that I thought everyone should pay to hunt. I Don't. But as stated above the hunting preserves "Have to Exist" in order for there to be a whitetail deer industry. Without them it would be like banning junk yards, Where would the end result for cars be ? Gamebreeders and Preserve owners depend on each other. I can not imagine either one condeming the other. |

I just happened on to discussion about buckmasters american deer foundation, and I agree with with most of you. That is why I started my own nonprofit organization called Disabled Sportsmen of America. We are made up of 5 volunteers who have a passion of helping disabled and terminally ill people who enjoy the outdoors. We are currently working on a getting a 17 year old young man a deer hunt. He took his hunter safety and passed it. He never thought hunting was an option of his because he is in a wheelchair afflicted with a disease called Fredreichs ataxia. This is a progressive muscular dystrophy disease that will eventually take his life. Most die by age 34. He has began his down hill slide and we dont know how many years he has before he wont be able to hunt. Our organization provides no cost hunting trips to folks like this, as well as providing info about adaptive equipment so that these folks can gain an independent life in the outdoors. We do support high fence operations because without them some of these kids would not have the chance to harvest a trophy. Like myself who took my first wild boar at a game ranch because there is no way I could chase dogs up and down the mountains after them. It is a memory that I will have forever. Thank you all for doing what you do. Please check out our website at www.disabledsportsmen.net If you would like to help us with our quest of getting Lance on a whitetail hunt it would be greatly appreciated |

I was surprised to find this discussion thread while searching for something else the other day. You see, I am one of the people involved with the charitable efforts of this group in Auburn. Many things have changed with our group since September of 2002. The primary change is that we are no longer affiliated with Buckmasters. }In fact, we have developed our own group called Hunters Helping Hunters (HHH for short). We provide hunting opportunities for physically challenged hunters. Other than travel expenses, we cover all of the expenses of the hunters that we sponsor. Typically, we scout local hunting spots, set up blinds, and get the hunters to and from the blinds. In some cases, we sit with the hunters while they are in the blinds. It is a fun and satisfying weekend. We are currently working on applying for a Not-For-Profit status. Although we would welcome donations, we are currently in need of hunting candidates for our fall, 2004 deer hunt. If you or someone you know are interested in filling out an application for this hunt, please visit our web site at huntershelpinghunters.org for more info. }} |
