It was really a special day for Chief Will Wilkinson on Saturday May 31, 2008 he was granted his wish to go bass fishing with some of his fellow firefighters from the Conroe Texas Fire Department. This was made possible with the help of the Seven Coves Bass Club. We left Stow Away Marina docks at around 7:30 that morning. The Chief and I were followed closely by 6 club members accompanied by the Chief's fellow firefighters who were keeping a very close eye on their friend and mentor. Everyone was able to catch some nice fish thanks to the help of the knowledgeable club members that pulled out all of their tricks to put us on fish that morning. When the Chief caught his first fish he was shaking, I ask him if he was alright and all he could say was he was so excited he couldn't stop shaking and said, "I feel like a kid again ". We thought the Chief would only be able to stay out for about 2 hours, but he kept on fishing with a smile ear to ear. His buddies were also having a great time and always staying close to their friend, the laughter and kidding back and forth was really special. After about 5 hours we headed back to the docks where the bass club members and Dee had prepared a cookout. We all enjoyed the food and fun for another hour or so before the day ended. The Chief's trip was arranged by another Firefighter that was not able to make the trip with us but Bill Hart did this for his dear friend. I would like to thank all of the Seven Coves Bass Cub with a special thanks to Aaron Bonin for all they did to make this a success. Also Stow Away Marina for providing their facilities. I enjoyed this trip as much as the Chief did and I am grateful to have made so many special new friends. God Bless All, Perry Powell, USSA |

Hey Perry, The fellowship in Will’s fishing event was sure to inspire all attendees. Even though Bill Hart wasn’t able to make it; his heart was there! God bless you and Dee for your dedication and hard work! Brigid O’Donoghue |

Fire chief gets special wish granted By Larry J. LeBlanc Courier Outdoors Writer 06/11/2008 It was really a special day for Conroe Fire Department Chief Will Wilkinson, who is battling brain cancer. Wilkinson was granted his wish May 31 to go bass fishing with some of his fellow firefighters. The trip was made possible by the efforts of Bill Hart, special friend of the chief’s, and Perry Powell, a professional angler who is on the advisory council for The United Special Sportsman’s Alliance, and the Seven Coves Bass Club. All left Stow Away Marina docks at around 7:30 that morning. The chief and Powell were followed closely by six Seven Coves members’ boats accompanied by the chief’s fellow firefighters, who were keeping a very close eye on their friend and mentor. Everyone was able to catch some nice fish thanks to the help of the knowledgeable club members that pulled out all of their tricks to put the group on fish that morning. When the chief caught his first fish he was shaking. When he was asked if he was OK, all he could say was he was so excited he couldn’t stop shaking — in his words, “I feel like a kid again.” After about five hours the chief and his entourage headed back to the docks where the bass club members had prepared a cookout and all enjoyed the food and fun for another hour or so before the day ended. |
