October 24 through the 26th of 2008 marked the 6th Annual IL Dream Hunt, and it was another great success! We had twelve special deer hunters that harvested four bucks and five doe.

John and Shenene Williamson and their volunteer support group secured the essential resources needed to operate a hunt such as this. The Carrier Mills served as the headquarters for the hunt and Oxford Church Camp donated the lodging for the families and guides.

Eric McCluskey the Site Superintendant of Saline County Fish & Wildlife was on the site making sure the hunt ran smoothly. Troy Jens, USSA BOD attended and sang to the families. The Mothers worked together making scrap books for the 12 special hunters.

Jim McFarlane who heads this hunt said, “The 2008 Illinois Dream Hunt saw our hunt this year trying to concentrate on as many local kids as possible to reduce the very expensive travel costs and address Illinois residents as much as possible. This year out of the 12 youth involved ˝ are from Illinois and Wisconsin. We have 3 Illinois children with one being involved from Harrisburg. We also have 3 Wisconsin kids and some of our volunteers are bringing the kids down to save travel expenses. The other youths range in age from 7 to 18 with one young gentleman being 26 years old. Other nearby states each has one youth from Kentucky, Indiana, & Missouri. Only three kids are traveling any significant distance with our farthest children coming from Alabama, & North Carolina.”

A very special appearance was made by the local Girl Scout troop, and they handed out hand-made “good luck” cards to the hunters visiting the town of Carrier Mills.

Donald Hall, who lost his son Blake to cancer last year attended as one of the guides this year. Donald was inspired to carry on and guide another youngster this year, and it was a great blessing to have him.

I would like to congratulate the special young hunters on a fine, sportsmanlike effort. In addition, I would like to thank all the donors and volunteers that helped make this hunt occur; your participation in events like this makes it possible!

I would like to congratulate all of these great young hunters, who shared both sportsmanship and fellowship as they hunted the grounds of the Sahara woods on this special dream hunt. We are all grateful for the many volunteers, the Illinois DNR and the taxidermists that share their time and resources in order to make this memorable event possible.

May God bless you all.

Brigid, looks like another great deer hunt. Wish we could have been there but just to much work getting in the way. What a great looking bunch of hunters you guys had up there. Jim and all of the guys do such a great job. Did everyone survive Troy's cooking ? Just kidding big guy, your pancakes were great last year !!! Once again Brigid the smiles say it all. I love this organization and I am so proud to be a part of it.

God Bless All,
Perry
