We are Illinois Deer Farmers. We are in discussion with 2 separate insurance companies over the damage done to our deer when 2 dogs owned by different people harassed our deer causing some to get out, some to receive injuries and some to die. It would be helpful to us to have auction results from April 2002 to current. Also if anyone knows of any other such cases that would be helpful too. Thank You |

I helped a deer farmer out that had a similar situation, the dog's owner's ins. co. paid for the death loss. The best thing that you can do is to get an appraiser to appraise your deer that you lost and turn that into the dog's owners ins. co. If you need an appraiser Jerry Campbell does it and I'm sure ther are others. Good Luck, Dan. |

Drop me an email. I have been involved in a couple of lawsuits on dogs. I am from Illinois, and there may be a couple of things in Illinois law that may help. Ray Favero, PhD drfavero@hotmail.com |

We are in the process of the exact same thing. 2 dogs harassed our deer until 4 of them died. We are still trying to get their insurance co to pay and it was a year on Saturday. We are in MI. Keep us posted on how your's turns out and we will do the same. Jerry Campbell's phone number is 847-778-8327. |

s/h whitetails i had the same thing with dogs i shot the dogs and called the sheriff they took a report. i wrote up a bill and a genetic profil on 10 of my does that were killed and along with that i sent sale bills from sales on what deer were bringing at sales. cannot have too much documentation overwhelm the insurance company with these values and you will come out on top. i collected 46,000 dollars on 10 does. since this i have killed 15 of the neighborhood dogs and 42 coyotes. 937-539-1139 aaron from ohio |

I have had 2 instances this year where a neighbors dog has gotten loose and caused damage to my deer, luckily we have not lost any and damage is minimal, (luckily I was home and able to get out there quick) however one buck has severe horn damage, hopefully not permanent. I filed police reports both times, and involved the dog warden the second time, I have not filed a law suit because I have lost no deer, but owner knows that the potential of one exists and also knows that some of my deer can easily be valued at 20-30,000.00 Both instances was the same dogs and the same owner.... pic of damaged deer attached. Scot, We shot the dogs while they were in the act. Then had the animal control out here. Went through all of the proper channels and are still trying to get it settled through the insurance co before we have to go anywhere else with it. We actually tried going through our county as there is a 1919 law that says that when dogs kill livestock, the county is responsible. Unfortunately, they got us on the fact that in 1919 deer were not listed as livestock. That is why it is taking so long. Now we are trying the insurance co as we have since found the owners of the dogs. |

Illinois had some legislation changing a couple of years ago, that may be in the deer owners favor. I would prefer not to go into detail here as we are not sure who is monitoring this site. Ray |
